HHUP Lunch Club

The HHUP Lunch Club meets monthly, COVID conditions permitting, usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at noon. HHUP members, volunteers and interested UP residents are welcome with advance sign-up required. Call 301-892-6636 or send an email to HHUniversityPark@gmail.com to register.

These gatherings allow for socializing with others while trying out area restaurants. During the height of COVID, we met via Zoom.

HHUP Poetry Gathering

All are welcome to join this regular Zoom gathering of lovers of poetry. Attendees are welcome to submit a poem, either their own or another's -- or they can attend simply to listen or participate in the discussion. Gatherings are warm and supportive with lively discussions. RSVP to LorettaHHUP@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link. Dates are listed on the HHUP Calendar.

Song of the Open Road

By Walt Whitman

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,

Healthy, free, the world before me,

The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,

Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,

Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,

Strong and content I travel the open road.

The earth, that is sufficient,

I do not want the constellations any nearer,

I know they are very well where they are,

I know they suffice for those who belong to them.

(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens,

I carry them, men and women, I carry them with me wherever I go,

I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them,

I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return.)

Spanish Pottery

Conversational Spanish

HHUP Conversational Spanish is a group of advanced beginners, some who are self-taught using dictionaries and practicing verb conjugations mostly. Some participants have better ears/accents than others. Some participants don't say much and others gabble on even when they make a total mess of vocabulary and grammar. This is definitely not an advanced class, but not for total beginners either. The group meets on Wednesdays, 3-4 pm. HHUP member Edda Osborne, native Spanish speaker, leads the group. All are welcome - email HHUniversityPark@gmail.com for further information.
