Volunteers

The dedication, skills and caring that our volunteers bring to HHUP fulfill the needs of members and benefit our entire University Park community. Services requested by neighbors generally fall into the following categories:

  • Errands

  • Shopping for a member

  • Picking up prescriptions

  • Warm/Cold weather chores

  • Leaf removal

  • Snow removal

  • Transportation

  • HHUP events

  • Medical appointments

  • Community events

  • Help with electronics or computers

  • Help with simple repairs, changing smoke detectors, light bulbs

  • Friendly visits and/or telephone check-in

Becoming a Volunteer

Anyone 18 or older from University Park or the surrounding areas with a passion for supporting our seniors is welcome to volunteer. There is no upper age limit! Volunteer drivers must be over the age of 25 although the HHUP Committee may make exceptions.

In order to become a volunteer, one must (1) complete an application and a volunteer training session. Once a volunteer application is received, they are contacted to arrange for a volunteer training session. In addition, background checks are required and, for our drivers, an MVA check is required as well as copy of driver's license and current auto insurance information. For the health and safety of members, volunteers are strongly encouraged to receive annual flu shots and to obtain CPR certification.
